چکیده

Predicting turbulent transport in nearly collisionless fusion plasmas requires one to solve kinetic or, more precisely, gyrokinetic equations. In spite of considerable progress, several pending issues remain; although more accurate, the kinetic calculation of turbulent transport is much more demanding in computer resources than fluid simulations. An alternative approach is based on a water-bag representation of the distribution function that is not an approximation but rather a special class of initial conditions, allowing one to reduce the full kinetic Vlasov equation into a set of hydrodynamic equations while keeping its kinetic character. The main result for the water-bag model is a lower cost in the parallel velocity direction since no differential operator associated with some approximate numerical scheme has to be carried out on this variable v . Indeed, a small bag number is sufficient to correctly describe the ion temperature gradient instability. © 2007 American Institute of Physics. DOI: 10.1063/1.2804079

Weak turbulence theory and simulation of the gyro-water-bag model.

The thermal confinement time of a magnetized fusion plasma is essentially determined by turbulent heat conduction across the equilibrium magnetic field. To achieve the study of turbulent thermal diffusivities, Vlasov gyrokinetic description of the magnetically confined plasmas is now commonly adopted, and offers the advantage over fluid models (MHD, gyrofluid) to take into account nonlinear res...

Transport in ITER-like plasmas in neoclassical, fluid and gyrokinetic descriptions

Abstract. Turbulent and neoclassical transport in a reference hybrid-mode ITER plasmas is studied using a hierarchy of modeling tools. Transport from ITG/TEM instability is studied with nonlinear gyrokinetic simulations and compared with results from quasilinear fluid and gyro-Landau fluid models. Simulations include full kinetic ion and electron dynamics, although a pure-D mixture is assumed f...

Impact of Carbon Nanotubes on the ‎Polymeric Membrane for Oil – Water ‎Separation

In this research, the classical phase inversion method was used to produce the polysulfone (PSF) membrane by using three different solvents: N, N-dimethylformamide (DMF), chloroform (CHCL3) and tetrahydrofuran (THF). Furthermore, different concentrations of functionalized multi – walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were added to PSF membranes by the classical phase inversion method...

Performance comparison of land change modeling techniques for land use projection of arid watersheds

The change of land use/land cover has been known as an imperative force in environmental alteration, especially in arid and semi-arid areas. This research was mainly aimed to assess the validity of two major types of land change modeling techniques via a three dimensional approach in Birjand urban watershed located in an arid climatic region of Iran. Thus, a Markovian approach based on two suit...

Angular momentum transport modeling: achievements of a gyrokinetic quasi-linear approach

QuaLiKiz, a model based on a local gyrokinetic eigenvalue solver[1] is expanded to include momentum flux modeling in addition to heat and particle fluxes[2, 3]. Essential for accurate momentum flux predictions, the parallel asymmetrization of the eigenfunctions is successfully recovered by an analytical fluid model. This is tested against self-consistent gyro-kinetic calculations and allows for...
